# finding a setting shouldn't take longer than changing it

Can semantic search make SaaS settings easier to find? A Jev-powered prototype that opens existing controls on demand, with a demo and the UX tradeoffs.

## The idea

Finding a setting often takes longer than changing it. This concept lets someone describe their task in a command palette, then opens an existing frontend control in context. The person still edits and saves the setting.

## Example

In a fictional analytics dashboard, “keep our team out of the analytics” opens internal-user filtering. “Hide sensitive inputs in recordings” opens privacy and masking. The user makes each change and returns to the same dashboard.

## Implementation and limits

The local prototype uses Jev from TypeSafe AI to select a component ID from a registry of six existing controls. The application remains responsible for rendering, validation, permissions, and saving. The embedded video is an authored concept animation with sample data and edited timing, not a live recording or latency benchmark. Comparative usability remains untested. Frequent actions should stay visible, with browsing and pinning as alternatives to search.
